Discrimination and the Law - a Help or a Hindrance?”

Discrimination in its various forms continues to be a divisive force in countries all over the world, despite major efforts having been made over the last century to speed up its eradication. As an inaugural start to a series of symposiums directed at presenting the law as a solution to global problems, the Singapore Law Review invites submissions on the state of discrimination in the world today, and the impact that laws have had or will have on the situation as it stands.

Submissions may include, but are not restricted to, articles that discuss anti-discrimination laws or laws that exacerbate discrimination within a particular jurisdiction or across jurisdictions, expound on the jurisprudential underpinnings of such laws, or evaluate the effectiveness of the law as a weapon against discrimination. Exemplary articles will examine both jurisprudential and practical aspects of an issue. Submissions may encompass any and all areas of law. For example, submissions may focus on employment law, criminal law, conflicts of law doctrine or even cover all three areas. Different perspectives may also be dealt with: for example, from that of the individual or a multi-national corporation. Case law should be dealt with when relevant.

Merit will be given to submissions that propose novel solutions to current problems in combating discrimination and implementing anti-discrimination laws. Articles that have a balanced mix of both global and local perspectives will also fare well.

Attractive prizes of up to USD 3,000 await the best entries of the competition with the chance to present their fine work in Singapore at NUS. Start writing now! For more information, check out the website (especially the complete rules and regulations page) or contact us here.
